Jacaranda Rain

Picture

I have the joy of living in Reno, Nevada but am able to spend several months each year in Palm Desert, California. The beauty of the Reno, (we are forty miles from Lake Tahoe) the drive down the I-395 corridor, through the changing moods of the Eastern Sierra, Owens Valley and the Mojave Desert, and the wonder of the Coachella Valley never ceases to inspire.

Currently, I am compiling and editing a volume of 50-60 poems that have been nurtured, for the most part, by the variety of seasons and environments in these areas of Nevada and California.

It is my hope that, within each poem, you will discover a message to nourish you-- body, mind and spirit.

This incredible humming bird visited us in Palm Desert during the month of April, 2011. It is known as a Leucistic Hummingbird.

Jacaranda Rain

I am
the sun that slips
through blinds, half-closed.
Painting saffron stripes
on adobe walls.

I am
a bolt of fire
lighting up the skies,
singeing trees on mountain tops,
splitting limbs.

I am
the sheltered branches of Mulberry tree.
Broad leaf umbrella
shading you at noontime.

I am
the dance of light upon the moon,
hiding my passion behind
swaying palms,
kissing night in unseen places.

I am
the empty flute
the flautist left behind.
I await the breath of God
to fill the void.

Though I must leave,
I’ll come to you again--
a shower of purple petals
upon dew-covered sod.
